Hello friends,
Dan here. This first weekly newsletter is a promise to you: every week I’ll keep you looped in on what’s changing, what I’m working on, and where you can plug in.
As someone who grew up riding bikes to parks and later led Boy Scouts campouts, I care a lot about safe, welcoming public spaces — the kind of places where that shared energy shows up every day. This week I walked the new south-side sidewalk connecting Hayden Tract and Rancho Higuera, checked the Robertson bus/bike upgrades by Ivy Station, and heard from residents about walkability near Higuera. Remember, I’m the neighbor you’ll see at CCUSD events with a camera or out checking signals and sidewalks. I’m always happy to stop and listen.
Speaking of happy, big congrats to the Dodgers on a huge win! You could really feel the city smiling, myself included.

🚧 Infrastructure & Streets
🔹 Hayden Tract/Rancho Higuera: new south-side sidewalk installed
A full block of brand-new sidewalk now connects the two neighborhoods — small project, big safety win for families, runners, and folks heading to work. I’m grateful to our Public Works team for getting this over the line.
🔹 Robertson Bus/Bike Lane project: completion & next steps
Protected bike lanes, better bus layover space, and a widened sidewalk near the E Line are now in place — improving access between Downtown and the Arts District. I’ll keep pushing to fine-tune signal timing and wayfinding so it works smoothly for everyone.

🔹 Westside ↔ Valley in ~20 minutes: Culver City backs Metro’s heavy-rail concept
Connecting jobs, schools, and healthcare without the 405 grind is a game-changer. I support high-capacity rail alternatives that deliver the fastest travel times and highest ridership. I’ll track the environmental review and bring back clear updates.

🔹 Sister City Uruapan, Mexico — remembering Mayor Carlos Manzo
I’m heartbroken by the assassination of Uruapan’s Mayor Carlos Manzo during Day of the Dead observances. Political violence has no place in public life. Our hearts are with Uruapan’s families and civic leaders. If you’d like to learn more about our Sister City ties:

Huge thanks to Parks Project, California State Parks, LA County Parks, and local volunteers who’ve been clearing overgrowth along the connector trail. I’m still on the mend from knee surgery, but I’ll be back on the hill soon.
