Redondo Beach: District 1 Newsletter for Sept 8, 2025

Redondo Beach
District 1 Newsletter for Sept. 8th, 2025
From the Office of Councilmember Brad Waller, District 1
Neighbors β thanks for a strong start to September. I believe progress here is built in small, steady steps: showing up for students, keeping our coastline clean, and spending our dollars with local businesses. This week we did all three. πͺ
You asked to have my community meeting back on a Saturday morning at Alta Vista. I heard. My next Community Meeting will be this Saturday, September 13, from 9:30-11am at the Alta Vista Community Center.
Be an active part of Redondo Beach. Get updates on news and civic events where you can contribute.
π« Public Safety, Youth, Culture & Community
- Career Technical Education (CTE): I joined the Redondo Beach Round Table for a look at RBUSD's CTE pathways β electrical welding, HVAC, entertainment, health, aerospace, and more. I believe early, hands-on exposure helps students find what they do want to do (and avoid debt for what they don't). Businesses willing to mentor or host site visits β please reach out, and I'll connect you.
- Friday Night Lights: I stopped by Redondo Union's first home game β great turnout and sportsmanship. Thank you for slowing down around the stadium and being patient at crosswalks; I believe game nights can be fun and safe for our neighbors.
- Keep the Esplanade Beautiful (Sept. 6th): Our First-Saturday crew picked up over 43 pounds of trash and filled three bags. I believe these neighbor-powered mornings are one of the simplest, most joyful ways to care for our coast.
- Swim the Avenues (Sept. 7th): What a morning! We welcomed a record 519 swimmers, ages 9 to 78, from a dozen states and four counties. I believe this event showcases the best of Redondo β ocean safety, volunteers, and community pride. Congratulations to everyone who swam and cheered on.
- Staff and partners are advancing the Redondo Beach Blvd Active Transportation improvements and the North Redondo Bikeway connections. I believe closing gaps β especially where we meet Torrance β will make everyday trips safer for kids, seniors, and anyone going car-light.
