Redondo Beach: District 1 Newsletter for October 12, 2025

Redondo Beach
District 1 Newsletter for Sept. 15th, 2025
📬 Brad Waller — District 1 Newsletter
October 13, 2025
Hi Neighbors —
Thanks to everyone who wrote, stopped me at the market, or came to Council this week.
I spent much of last week at the League of California Cities conference, comparing notes with nearby cities on practical fixes we can bring home — from parking and public safety to economic development and short-term rental enforcement. I also made it back in time to cheer on our Redondo Union students (Wow, incredible talent on that stage!) and to catch up with many of you at community events. I’m proud of how engaged our District 1 neighborhood is — keep the feedback coming.
🛡️ Public Safety & Neighborhood Traffic
🔹 Holiday Lights traffic & the Avenue H/Massena/Circle Drive area
At our recent meeting, we discussed a temporary seasonal preferential parking pilot for the neighborhood most affected by the Seaside/Sleepy Hollow holiday lights traffic. We also heard comments about a possible exit-only option at Avenue H that would require continuous traffic control by Torrance PD. I’ve received significant input from neighbors opposing the Avenue H opening; I’m committed to making sure your voices are reflected in any next steps. We’re focused on safety, access, and coordination with Torrance. I am working to set up a community meeting for residents, which will include the Torrance city council representative, before it comes back for discussion.

💼 Economic Development & City Services
🔹 Learning & partnerships from Cal Cities
I spent three days in sessions on climate/resilience partnerships, parking management, passing local revenue measures responsibly, and strengthening local regulation of housing and short-term rentals. Why it matters: smarter policy = better services without waste. I’ll be translating these ideas into Redondo-specific proposals (and I’ll keep you posted as they come forward).
🔹 Rise & Shine Redondo — local business & preparedness
NRBBA’s monthly “Rise & Shine” meet-up is a great place to connect with local business owners, City staff, and neighbors. Recent programs have featured emergency readiness, education partnerships, and practical tips for keeping the local economy strong. Meetings are typically on the 2nd Thursday, 7:45–9:00 a.m. at South Bay Galleria (Community Room).

🎓 Education & Youth
🔹 Cheering on RUHS Theatre & alumni events
Huge congrats to Redondo Union High School’s student performers, crew, and musicians — your work makes our whole city proud. I attended the PTSA car show and the performance of Urinetown this weekend; if you’ve got a student program you want highlighted, send it my way and I’ll amplify.
🏠 Housing & Community Rules
🔹 Short-term rentals, ADUs & group homes — what we’re watching
From Cal Cities, I brought back regulatory and enforcement ideas that respect neighborhoods while complying with state law. Expect an easy-to-understand (less government-talk) update on where we can tighten rules (and where state law preempts us) as staff items come forward.

I happily ran into a lot of Redondo folks this week — at the Cal Cities sessions, at community meet-ups, and in our schools. If you know me, you know I’m a data-and-details person (engineer, PTA lifer, “Internet Oldtimer”), but what keeps me going is seeing neighbors step up for one another. This means the world to me.
So please keep reaching out. Tell me what’s working — and what isn’t — and I’ll keep translating your feedback into action at City Hall.
Looking forward to seeing you around our beautiful neighborhood!
