Redondo Beach: District 1 Newsletter for October 19, 2025

Redondo Beach
District 1 Newsletter for Sept. 15th, 2025
📬 Brad Waller — District 1 Newsletter — October 20, 2025
Hi neighbors — Brad here.
If you know me, you know I like things that work, systems that run smoothly and plans that have purpose.
Between presenting the City’s proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and preparing for Tuesday’s Council meeting, this week reminded me how much small policy adjustments can create real community impact. City policy is a lot like engineering: small tweaks, tested and measured, add up to big results.
Here’s what’s on deck and where your feedback makes a difference.
🚨 Public Safety & Policy
🔹 Smoke Shop Ordinance — Council Discussion Tuesday (10/21)
We’ll take up updated language on smoke shop regulations and give direction on the final ordinance text. This is about keeping youth safe and aligning retail uses with neighborhood expectations. I’ll be pushing for clear definitions, enforceable rules, and strong compliance standards.

🔹 Avenue H Exit — Traffic Control Update
We’re still waiting on written assurances from the City of Torrance regarding traffic control at the Avenue H exit. At this time, no operational changes are planned.

⚡ Infrastructure & Utilities
🔹 Your SCE Bill Is Changing in November
Southern California Edison is restructuring residential bills next month, adding a Base Services Charge and lowering the per-kWh delivery rate. In plain English: lower-usage households may see a modest increase; higher-usage households may see little change or a decrease. If your bill is around $100/month, expect roughly a $10–$15 increase; around $200/month, little change. I’ll keep an eye on rollout details.

🎓 Community & Education
🔹 RUHS Alumni House — Congrats, Carl!
A quick shout-out to Carl Dreizler for six years of leadership with the RUHS Alumni House team. A commemorative brick was dedicated in his honor on the 8th anniversary of the Alumni House reopening — well-deserved recognition for steady service to students and alumni.
🔹 Regional transit coordination: Free bus rides to the Metro meeting
Redondo Beach and Lawndale are teaming up to help residents attend the Metro Right-of-Way Extension meeting — expected to be early December. Free bus rides are available — sign up early and check in by 8:00 a.m. The project’s C-Line Final EIR is also available for review.

Every week, I see how the details we debate in Council — from ordinances to event permits — ripple out into real life. They shape how safe, connected, and efficient our city feels. Thanks for keeping up, speaking up, and doing your part to make Redondo Beach work even better.
