Ho Ho Ho How are you friends?
The sleigh routes went live this week, and within minutes my phone lit up with neighbors mapping out where to catch Santa. That's the kind of problem-solving I appreciate β families coordinating curbside meetups like they're launching a satellite. December's moving fast, and this week packed in real snow at the Lagoon, holiday lights in the Village, and a tribute to a District 1 veteran who served this community for decades.
Below is what happened, what's next, and where you can plug in.
π Community & Holiday Events
πΉ Santa's sleigh tour runs through December 19. The Redondo Beach Police Officers Association brings Santa through neighborhoods starting around 5 pm each night. Monday's route (December 8, tonight) covers North Redondo β Broadway to Catalina, down Elena, then through the beach neighborhoods. Routes shift daily, and the map updates on the city site. Listen for sirens and Santa's "Ho Ho Ho," and the sleigh stops mid-block so everyone gets a turn.
β π‘ Why this matters: This is RBPD building trust one block at a time. Officers donate their time, families gather outside, and neighbors who've lived here for years meet the folks who just moved in. It's low-tech community building that works.

πΉ Let It Snow brought 3,500+ people to Seaside Lagoon on Saturday. Real snow, sledding, photos with Santa, hot chocolate, and crafts packed the afternoon. RBPD's Domestic Violence Victim Advocacy Program collected toys, coats, and gift cards for families in need. Volunteers from Redondo Union's JROTC helped push kids down the sled hill and serve refreshments. This is the event's third year, and it's become a December tradition families plan around.
β β‘ My take: Public safety isn't just response times. Events like this build relationships between residents and officers, and they give families a reason to gather. Plus, snow at the beach just works!
πΉ Riviera Village Holiday Stroll drew crowds Thursday night. Catalina Avenue closed to cars, stores stayed open late with refreshments, and Santa and the Grinch made appearances. It's the unofficial kickoff to the season in South Redondo, and it's a great reminder of why supporting the small businesses that anchor the Village matters. These aren't chain stores; they're neighbors.
ποΈ City Council & Looking Ahead
πΉ Tuesday's Council meeting (December 9, 6 pm) includes year-end business and the annual tree lighting ceremony beforehand at 4:30 pm. Vera Jimenez hosts, RUHS Jazz Band and choirs perform, and we light the tree at the Civic Center. It's a city tradition that brings students, families, and community partners together to kick off the season.
β π‘ What's on deck: The December 9 agenda will likely include updates on ongoing projects and year-end reports. Check the calendar as items get posted.

πΉ Jim Sheehy tribute. At the December 2 Council meeting, we adjourned in honor of Jim Sheehy, a longtime District 1 resident and US Navy veteran. Jim served this community for decades, and his loss is felt across the neighborhood. This is the kind of quiet service that built Redondo Beach into what it is today.
π Community Pride
πΉ Redondo Beach on national TV. During the Chargers game last Sunday, CBS Sports featured a shot of Avenue H at the Esplanade. It's a small thing, but it's always good to see our coastline getting national visibility. Our waterfront is an asset, and moments like this remind people why the South Bay draws visitors year-round.
