More informationSam Perry Pop-Up: A Selection of Small Works
Date: 2025-10-11T11:00-7:00
Description: M Stark Gallery is proud to present a survey of small sculptures by Sam Perry. Perry sources his wood from Runnymede Sculpture Farm in Woodside, where he has worked as the director of conservation since 1989. Perry is a master of illusion: There is no piecing or joinery in his work. Work that looks folded or tied is carved from a single log or branch. It takes years for a log to dry out and cure so Perry can transform it into the curvilinear, abstract form he imagined when he first saw it on the ground. Sam Perry grew up working weekends in his father’s Honolulu woodworking shop, helping restore historic koa racing canoes. He received his B.A. and M.F.A. in Ceramics from California College of Arts and Crafts (now California College of the Arts). Perry has been represented by Rena Bransten Gallery (San Francisco) since 2008. Special thanks to Rena Bransten Gallery. Description: Labor and delivery may seem like a scary undertaking for many expectant moms. In her Monday evening class, Joyce prepares women for being uncomfortable in labor, and helps them to know that they can handle it. The practice starts off slowly with a warm up, moving into a relatively vigorous strength-building vinyasa practice, and finishing with a relaxing restorative pose. In the process, moms learn how to relax on command, let go of tension and fear, to become more aware of their bodies and to feel comfortable with the changes that pregnancy brings. Description: "As Long As You're Asking: A Conversation with Jason Alexander" is an evening of comedy, music and conversation with the award-winning star of stage and screen, with a twist: the audience determines what they want to know the most. Alexander will present a variety of topics for the audience to pick and choose from, culminating in behind-the-scenes stories of his life, career and social activism. Alternatively, ask about anything you've always wanted to know and see if he can answer. Alexander has starred on Broadway, in hit films like "Pretty Woman" and "Shallow Hal" and, of course, on the TV series "Seinfeld." He is an actor, director, producer, writer, children's book author, award-winning magician, semi-pro poker player and social-political activist. It's all on the table and the conversation is completely in your control, making for a once-in-a-lifetime event. Though best known for his award-winning nine-year stint as the now iconic George Costanza of television's "Seinfeld," Alexander has achieved international recognition for a career noted for its extraordinary diversity. Aside from his performances on stage, screen and television, he has worked extensively as a writer, composer, director, producer and teacher of acting. In between all that, he has also become an award-winning magician, a notorious poker player and a respected advocate on social and political issues. For his depiction of "George" on "Seinfeld," Alexander garnered six Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nominations, an American Television Award and two American Comedy Awards. He won two Screen Actor Guild Awards as the best actor in a television comedy despite playing a supporting role, and in 2012 he was honored to receive the Julie Harris Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Actor's Fund. The event is part of the Jewish Luminaries Series. We would like to recognize Susan Wolfe for generously sponsoring this event.
