More informationXabatin: Big Lake, Big Science Documentary
Date: 2026-01-11T22:00:00Z
Description: The critically acclaimed documentary, “Xabatin: Big Lake, Big Science,” which offers a deep dive into the research, culture, and history of Clear Lake, will host its second showing of the Director’s Cut at the Soper Reese Theatre on Sunday, January 11th, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Following its sold-out premiere, the film returns to give the community another opportunity to experience the science and beauty of North America’s oldest lake. “Xabatin: Director’s Cut” explores the latest research and collaborations focused on Clear Lake, the largest freshwater natural lake located entirely in California. The film masterfully weaves together the work of regional Native American Tribes & Organizations, Federal, State, and Local agencies, and non-profits, providing an understandable narrative of the scientific and historical attention (and funding) focused on the lake and its watersheds. Positive response to the premiere has been overwhelming. Audience members praised the film for its informative depth and clarity: “What a great deep dive into our lake. I walked away with a much better perspective.” and “You did a masterful job weaving all the science, culture, and history into an understandable narrative and visual presentation.”
