More informationCommunity Center Plaza - Busking with Bill Hauser
Date: 2025-08-08T16:30:00
Description: Stop by the Community Center Plaza this Friday to hear Sax Player, Bill Hauser this Friday, 8/8 from 4:30 - 7:30 PM. Grab your friends and a bottle of wine and pull up a seat to enjoy some evening entertainment. Raised in Anchorage, Alaska from the age of 3, Bill began playing the saxophone in grade school, and decided to never stop. After graduating from Indiana University, Bill moved to Atlanta, where he sat in at local jam sessions, eventually picking up a touring gig as member of the Platinum Soul Band with the Universoul Circus. Bill then moved to NYC, where he became a fixture on the village r&b scene, working and performing with some of the best-known musicians on the scene. While sitting in with The Black Soul Experience at Manhattan's Club Groove, frontman Antwon Robinson shouted impromptu "Kill Bill!," and the name stuck. In 2017, Bill joined the B.B. King’s All-Stars Band, touring the Caribbean and Central America aboard Holland America cruise line. Now back in Alaska, Bill has been recording for and working with various out-of-state producers, and is recording his debut album. He has opened for Gerald Albright & Regina Belle and Al B. Sure!

More informationTower of Power
Date: 2025-08-08T19:30
Description: For 57 years, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music. “We were a Soul band called The Motowns,” recalls Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player, I was there, and my brother was the drummer. I met “Doc” Kupka back in 1968, and gave him an audition. He came in the band, and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.” The reason for the band name change was that they had a specific goal in mind. The 70's were a boom period with radio classics like 'So Very Hard to Go' and 'What Is Hip?,' and the band continued to tour and record over the years. Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968. Supported in part by Poppy Bank and Sally Tomatoes.

More informationPink Martini featuring China Forbes
Date: 2025-08-21T19:30:00
Description: Pink Martini featuring China Forbes 30th Anniversary Tour featuring a dozen musicians, with songs in 25 languages, Pink Martini performs its multilingual repertoire on concert stages on six continents. After making it’s European debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 and its orchestral debut with the Oregon Symphony in 1998, the band has gone on to play with more than 50 orchestras around the world, including multiple engagements with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Boston Pops, the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, the San Francisco Symphony, and the BBC Concert Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall in London. Pink Martini has released 11 studio albums on its own independent label Heinz Records (named after Lauderdale’s dog), selling over 3 million albums worldwide. In 1994 in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Thomas Lauderdale was working in local politics when he saw the need for most engaging and inspiring music at political fundraisers. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop – and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike, he founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994 to provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, libraries, public broadcasting, education and parks. One year later, Lauderdale called China Forbes, a Harvard classmate who was living in New York City, and asked her to join Pink Martini. Their first song writing collaboration was “Sympathique (Je ne veux pas travailler)” which became an overnight sensation in France, was nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards, and is still the band’s number one song. In 2024 the band is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
