During this call, we’ll gather to deepen collective analysis among foundation staff at all levels of experience and expertise on gentrification and displacement, identify intersectional approaches that protect, preserve, and produce affordable housing, and highlight actions that create long-term benefits for residents to self-determine their communities. Participants will hear from fellow practitioners from the Cypress Fund and The James Irvine Foundation share their practice in resourcing a future where residents self-determine their housing and community’s development.

Date: 2026-08-20T09:00
Description: Join the Oakland Metro Chamber for the August edition of Inside Oakland, featuring Cupid Alexander, Oakland's new Chief Homelessness Solutions Officer. As one of the City's newest executive leaders, Mr. Alexander will share his vision for addressing homelessness in Oakland, discuss current priorities, and provide insight into the strategies and partnerships that will shape the City's response moving forward. With a distinguished career leading housing, homelessness response, and community development initiatives across major U.S. cities, Mr. Alexander brings a proven track record of operational leadership and large-scale program implementation. Most recently, as Deputy Director of the City of San José Housing Department, he oversaw more than $100 million in resources, helped deliver nearly 1,000 emergency interim housing, supportive outdoor sleeping, and safe parking spaces, expanded economic mobility initiatives for unhoused residents, and led a 50-person team responsible for equity, grants, inspections, and homelessness response. This timely conversation will provide Chamber members and community leaders with an opportunity to hear directly from Oakland's new homelessness leader, gain insight into the City's approach, and engage in a thoughtful discussion about one of Oakland's most pressing challenges.

Chinatown TOD Senior Housing Groundbreaking
Date: 2026-10-01
Description: In 2008, the Oakland Chinatown community came together to develop a vision for what a healthy and thriving 21st-century Chinatown should be, and who it should be built for. A coalition of many different voices from public health, affordable housing, small businesses, churches, residents, transportation, and public agencies came together to shape the priorities of the City’s Lake Merritt BART Station Area Plan, and created the path for BART’s future redevelopment of this station area to be economically inclusive, and historically and culturally restorative.
