More informationThe True Story of Fremont, Foxen and the San Marcos Pass
Date: 2026-04-08T11:00:00
Description: The True Story of Fremont, Foxen and the San Marcos Pass A talk by Neal Graffy Wednesday, April 8 Two opportunities! 11:00 AM TICKETS 5:30 PM TICKETS In early December, 1846, “The Pathfinder,” Lt. Col. John C. Frémont, and his recently assembled California Battalion were encamped some 20 miles below Mission San Juan Bautista. Their goal? Head south and liberate Santa Barbara and then Los Angeles from the forces of General José María Flores and claim California for the United States. To do so, for the next twenty-five days Frémont and his men would embark on an historic march of 230 miles culminating in a Christmas Day descent from the Santa Ynez mountains in a torrential rainstorm. According to legend, Benjamin Foxen warned Frémont of a trap at Gaviota Pass and then led Frémont and the battalion safely over the “San Marcos Pass.”

More informationToast to Liberty
Date: 2026-04-11T21:00:00Z
Description: An afternoon of Liberty & Legacy! Raise a cup to 250 years of American independence with a delicious tea luncheon, special proclamations, live music, silent auction and special appearances by some of the 'Founding Mothers' of the United States, Deborah Sampson and Martha Washington. Deborah Sampson defied convention and danger alike when she disguised herself as a man to fight in the American Revolution, serving honorably in the Continental Army and enduring wounds, hardship, and secrecy in pursuit of liberty. In this stirring appearance, she will not only recount her own trials and tribulations in the cause of freedom for all, but also speak to the power and resolve of women in the Revolution—arriving proudly clad in the uniform of her regiment. Martha Washington was more than the wife of a general—she was a steady force behind the cause of American independence, enduring the hardships of war alongside her husband and offering quiet strength to a fledgling nation. In this special appearance, she will speak on the fates of the Founding Fathers and the brave rebels who signed the Declaration of Independence in defiance of tyranny, risking everything in the hope of securing justice for all. This event is the Rancho Purisima Chapter's main annual fundraiser that helps us continue to support the Lompoc Valley through education, historic preservation, and patriotism. We support local veterans, Wreaths Across America, book angel programs, youth scholarships, and restore historic sites like the River Park Vietnam Memorial, the Lompoc Museum World War I Memorial, and make sure 'missing' veterans in our local Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery get the recognition well deserved.
