Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra
Presented by the Carmel Bach Festival Directed by Rachel Podger This November, the festival will be featuring the internationally acclaimed Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and beloved violinist Rachel Podger. Many of the musicians in this performance are also apart of the Carmel Bach Festival orchestra, so we are excited to welcome them back this Fall. Fresh off their celebrated 2024 tour, Tafelmusik returns with Brilliant Baroque—a spirited program that captures the energy, elegance, and joy of baroque music. From the stately courts of England to the vibrant streets of Venice, this musical journey includes works by Handel, Purcell, Avison, Reichenauer, Vivaldi, and, of course, J.S. Bach. Rachel Podger, hailed by the BBC for her “infectiously spritely bounce and exhilarating dramatic tension,” leads the orchestra in Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, alongside Vivaldi’s exhilarating Concerto for Four Violins and an enchanting orchestral suite by Reichenauer. Program JEAN BAPTISTE LULLY (1632-1687) Suite from Roland Ouverture – Air gay – Gavotte – Gigue – Chaconne CHARLES AVISON (1709–1770) Concerto no. 6 in D Major, after Scarlatti Largo – Con furia – Adagio – Vivacemente JOHAN SEBASTIAN BACH (1685-1750) Prelude and Fugue “St. Anne,” BWV 552 GEORG PHILIPP TELEMANN (1681-1767) Concerto for 2 Oboes and Bassoon in d minor, TWV 53:d1 Grave – Allegro – Affetuoso Adagio – Vivace JOHAN SEBASTIAN BACH (1685-1750) Concerto for violin in G Minor, BWV 1056R Allegro – Adagio – Presto Rachel Podger, violin soloist GEORGE FRIDERIC HANDEL (1685–1759) Concerto grosso in G Major, op. 6, no. 5 Larghetto e affettuoso – A tempo giusto – Musette – Allegro - Allegro GEORGE FRIDERIC HANDEL (1685–1759) Chaconne from Terpsichore
