District 1 Newsletter for Sept. 15th, 2025

Dear Neighbors,
From local safety initiatives to big-picture regional planning, this week shows how every decision we make—large or small—shapes the rhythm of daily life here in Redondo Beach. Whether we’re refining parking policies, learning from our Coastal Commission partners, or showing up for one another at community events, progress is built one thoughtful conversation at a time.
Below are highlights, updates, and ways to stay involved this week.
🚓 Neighborhood Safety & Civic Life
🔹 Holiday Traffic & Parking Pilot
The City Council will discuss a proposed short-term parking permit program for the Massena Ave and Avenue H neighborhood. The goal: relieve evening traffic and parking impacts from Torrance’s annual holiday-lights display.
The plan would create a two-year pilot zone (Nov 28 – Jan 4 each year), restricting evening parking to residents with permits. Council will also review Torrance’s request to allow westbound traffic on Avenue H during the holiday period instead of a full closure.

🔹 Busy Morning for RBFD
Our Redondo Beach Fire Department responded quickly to an incident at 730 Esplanade earlier this week. Everything is clear now, and I appreciate the speed and professionalism of our first responders who keep our neighborhoods safe.
🌊 Coastal & Economic Development
🔹 Coastal Commission Meet-Up — Oct 7
The California Coastal Commission plays a huge role in Redondo’s future—from coastal-access decisions to waterfront development.
Join them Tuesday, Oct 7 (6–8 p.m.) at the Sonesta Hotel for a social hour and panel discussion. It’s a great way to meet commissioners, ask questions, and see how state and local priorities align.

🔹 Supporting Local Leadership
This weekend, I met with Scott Houston, candidate for Assembly District 66, to discuss workforce development, infrastructure, and housing affordability. Scott understands the balance between growth and preserving the unique character of our South Bay communities. A win for him is a win for us and all of the South Bay.

Every step we take as a community—from cleaning up our beaches to balancing holiday traffic solutions—reflects how much we care about our shared spaces. Thanks for being part of that effort each week. If you see me out walking the Esplanade or at one of these events, say hi and let me know what’s on your mind. I’m here for you.
