Redondo Beach: District 1 Newsletter for September 29, 2025

Redondo Beach
District 1 Newsletter for Sept. 15th, 2025
September 29, 2025
Dear Neighbors,
It’s been one of those weeks that reminds me why I love serving our community—taking steps towards our big-picture clean energy goals, cutting the ribbon on a space designed by and for our teens, and celebrating neighbors who’ve given decades of their time to Redondo. These moments keep me grounded in what we’re building together.
🌎 Public Safety & Civic Life
🔹 Charting the Future of Clean Energy
On Friday, I joined the Clean Power Alliance annual retreat, where we made headway on ambitious goals: moving to provide 100% greenhouse gas–free energy by 2035, a full decade ahead of state mandates. I also dove into the Power Ready program, which installs clean backup energy systems at critical community facilities.
👉Why it matters: These investments strengthen our resilience in emergencies and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. I’ll keep pushing for Redondo to lead on sustainable, reliable power.

🔹 Perry Park Teen Center — Open & Active
Thank you to everyone who helped us cut the ribbon on the Perry Park Teen Center (2301 Grant Ave.)—a safe “third space” designed with youth input where teens can gather, connect, and thrive after school. I’m excited to see this space buzzing with activity and mentorship again.

🔹 Herondo St/PCH Open Space Improvements — Groundbreaking Sept 30
Join us Tuesday, Sept 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the open space on the SW corner of Herondo St & N Catalina Ave for the groundbreaking that kicks off Phase 1 (~2.2 acres). Initial work includes a decomposed-granite path, cobble swales, irrigation, native plants, and benches; construction begins Oct 1 and Phase 1 is slated for about 4 months.

🔹 Celebrating Our Volunteers
On September 23, Redondo Beach honored longtime community volunteers, including one with 52 years of service. Thank you for showing up for Redondo, again and again.

🔹 Regional Collaboration on Clean Energy
The South Bay was well represented at the Clean Power retreat with leaders from neighboring cities, including Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hawthorne, Carson, Santa Monica, and more. Regional coordination helps Redondo secure smarter investments in resilience and infrastructure.
