Redondo Beach: District 1 Newsletter for Sept 15, 2025

Redondo Beach
District 1 Newsletter for Sept. 15th, 2025
Councilmember Brad Waller Newsletter β September 15, 2025
From the Office of Councilmember Brad Waller, District 1
Dear Neighbors β this week felt like Redondo in a nutshell: fix the railing, open the door to opportunities for teens, ask better questions about parking, and keep our waterfront plans honest. It's not flashy, but it's the stuff that makes daily life better. Let's dive in. π

ποΈ Issue Spotlight β Parking, But Make It Smarter
What's happening: On Tuesday, Sept. 16 (6pm), Council will consider adding short-term and seasonal permit options to our Preferential Parking Zones to better manage spillover during seasonal surges (e.g., holiday lights).
Why it matters: Some blocks face temporary but severe parking impacts; flexible tools can protect residents without over-regulating year-round.
My take: I'm open to targeted, time-bound tools that reduce friction for neighborhoods while staying simple to administer and fair across the city.
Join the discussion: City Council β Tues, Sept. 16 @ 6pm. Read the agenda/packet; send an eComment or come speak. I'll be listening for real-world stories and practical tweaks. redondo.legistar.com
πΆββοΈ Sand, Stairs & Safer Trips
- Knob Hill Stairs are back: The new railing is in, and the stairs are open. We had to wait on custom manufacturing/anodizing β not glamorous, but necessary for ocean exposure. If you spot anything off, ping me and log it in Access Redondo so crews can move. Beach access should be boringly reliable. Instagram
- Bike/Lane gaps: I'm continuing the drumbeat with Torrance on the Redondo Beach Blvd + North Redondo Bikeway connections. The biggest safety wins come from closing the gaps where our systems meet. I'll keep working cross-jurisdictionally and reporting back as design milestones are reached. MyGovTools
π Teens, Talent & Try-It-Yourself
- Perry Park Teen Center β Re-opening party, Sept. 25 @ 5β6:30pm: Come see the refreshed space and say hi to the partners who made it happen. Youth spaces are crime prevention, mentorship, and joy rolled into one. Bring a friend (or your drummer β thanks, School of Rock!). redondo.org
- Career Technical Education (CTE) + Measure S at Rise & Shine: I listened to RBUSD leaders on technical education pathways and bond progress. My bias is plain: more hands-on exposure, less guesswork, and less debt later. If your business can host a tour or mentor, reply, and I'll connect the dots. redondo.legistar.com
π Harbor Moves (Your Voice Needed)
- Public Boat Launch Workshop β Sept. 23 @ 5:30pm (Main Library, 2F): We'll walk through traffic/parking/coastal criteria studies and early concepts for Mole D. I want a design that works on a busy Saturday, not just on paper. Show up and kick the tires with us. redondo.org
π¨ ARTesia Corridor & Community Vibes
- Dine Around ARTesia & ARTwalk β Westside finale: You packed the boulevard; businesses felt it. Keep the momentum: shop local, tag your favorite storefronts, and chime in on the corridor's public art vision. Identity builds foot traffic. NRBBA
- Casting call β "Let's Make it Redondo Beach!" Shared a note for LA homeowners interested in a budget-savvy home makeover series. If that's you, check out the official link and bring your Redondo creativity. (No city endorsement implied; just passing along an opportunity neighbors asked about.) MyGovTools
βοΈ Families & Everyday Resources
- Farmers' Market by the Pier (Veterans Park) β Thursdays, 8amβ1pm, 309 Esplanade. Pack your tote, catch a breeze, say hi to the regulars. MyGovTools
- Riviera Village Farmers Market β Sundays, 8:30amβ1pm, Triangle Lot, 1801 S. Elena Ave. Stroll, sip, support local growers. MyGovTools
π Mark Your Calendar
- City Council β Tues, Sept. 16 @ 6pm (agenda/packet; in person or online). redondo.legistar.com
- Public Boat Launch Workshop β Tues, Sept. 23 @ 5:30pm (Main Library). redondo.org
- Perry Park Teen Center Ribbon Cutting β Thurs, Sept. 25 @ 5β6:30pm (2301 Grant Ave). redondo.org

π€² Parting thought
We don't fix everything at once. We fix something this week β a stair railing, a meeting rule, a teen hangout β and then we fix the next thing.
Thanks for showing up, Redondo.
